Each of the 16 villas on the hillside is called a "bale," which in Indonesian means "a place where the community gathers." The bales look like charming pavilions, but they have no walls, only airy curtains, mosquito nets, and bamboo blinds, which emphasizes the connection to nature and its elements. Of course, you don't have to sacrifice comfort, as all bales have air conditioning and their own pool overlooking the valley. A hand-hammered copper bathtub and a carved wooden mirror await you in the bathroom. The fantastic view ranges from green jungle scenery to terraced rice fields.
In the Open Kitchen, chef Eka Sunarya does everything he can to introduce you to the culinary heritage of the region. The restaurant works mainly with plant-based ingredients and serves magnificent local dishes, such as braised jackfruit with coconut milk, gulai spice, and crispy shallots. The menu is complemented by delicious breakfast dishes and a buffet with fresh fruit and pastries. The Botanist Bar serves unforgettable cocktails made with local herbs – try the Baligroni with arak, rosella tea, homemade mandarin liqueur, star anise, and cardamom.
Waking up at Banyan Tree Buahan is nothing short of magical: only a sheer curtain separates your bed from the lush green valley that stretches out directly below your villa.
