This gaze strikes you right in the heart! The mighty silverback looks you straight in the eye, and suddenly you feel a connection that shakes you to your core. You sense his wild, untameable spirit – and yet there is this deep calm, a strangely civilized streak that seems almost human. The mighty mountain gorilla rises like a black mountain in the midst of his family, the little ones romping around him, protected by his strong hands. A mother monkey holds her baby to her chest, while playful teenagers nudge each other, then start a boisterous scuffle. Experiencing all this up close seems like a breathtaking miracle – and yet it is very real! You don't even have to pinch yourself to distinguish between dream and reality: after all, you can feel the humid jungle air on your skin and enjoy the lively dancing sunbeams under the lush green canopy.

When the small herd of forest elephants emerges from the thicket and enters the cooling lake, you experience another moment of pure joy. These comparatively small pachyderms hide in the dense rainforests and have become increasingly rare over the years. The female elephant with the strikingly round ears nudges her calf into the water, but the little guy is still a little shy. But bathing is a must, as the mother's body language clearly seems to say! You can't help but smile, especially when two more playful babies jump wildly into the water and splash the little hesitant one. How wonderful that these magnificent animals still have offspring! The intimate encounter with the true rulers of the forests makes you happy through and through: you will cherish these experiences in Uganda forever like a precious treasure.

The inhabitants of the small village of Bigodi are exemplary in their commitment to the surrounding marshland. Local guides reveal the secrets of this enchanted landscape on a joint tour, taking you deep into the breeding grounds of parrots, hornbills, and woodpeckers via creaking wooden walkways. Many other bird species also find their home here, and tourism is geared towards ecological and social sustainability. In the village itself, you can chat with the friendly locals, watch them go about their daily business, and perhaps be offered a traditional dish or two. This is another of the special experiences in Uganda that make this distant, foreign country a place that will live in your heart.
