Perhaps—but only perhaps!—the infamous Belgian waffles can compete with this specialty: try it for yourself. In Bruges, the country's typical sweets are just as available as in Ghent or Brussels. They taste best in the middle of a charming old town with strawberries, caramel, and a historic panorama. Belgium has more than enough of these to offer, too, such as the Royal Palace in Brussels, which the royal family uses as their official residence. Their actual home is Schönenberg Castle in Laeken, a gem that Napoleon once conquered and gave to his beautiful Joséphine.
