Uganda Chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, and unique hikes

After a short domestic flight, your journey takes you to Kibale National Park – Uganda's primate paradise. The evergreen rainforest is home to the highest concentration of primates in the world, with 13 different species to discover. The absolute highlight of the park are the approximately 500 chimpanzees that you will encounter while trekking. But you will also encounter other animal inhabitants while hiking through the park: rare forest elephants can be found here, as well as buffalo, leopards, and numerous antelope species – keep your eyes open!

Use your time in the park to go on various hikes with an experienced guide and watch the chimpanzees, genetically speaking our closest relatives, playing and eating in the trees. You also have the opportunity to accompany a chimpanzee family for a whole day and observe their entire daily routine.

After exciting hikes in the rainforest, you will continue on to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which offers a completely different landscape with 2,000 square kilometers of open savannah, papyrus swamps, and crater lakes. Here you will have the opportunity to discover four of the Big 5 on safari drives. Observe elephants, lions, spotted hyenas, hippos, warthogs, herds of buffalo, leopards, and many other wild animals on morning and evening game drives.

Your accommodation, Kyambura Gorge Lodge, is located directly on the equator: the monument can be seen directly from the lodge, and nowhere else in the world can you sleep closer to the equator. The lodge's spacious grounds border directly on beautiful Lake Kikorongo, where the open plains merge into crystal-clear water and elephants come to drink. Here you will also find the highest concentration of hippos in all of Africa and can experience them up close on boat trips.

After a short domestic flight, you will reach the country's next exciting national park: Bwindi National Park, which is best known for its 340 mountain gorillas. In addition, you will also find one of the world's most species-rich bird populations here, with over 1,000 species. The greatest adventure of your trip through Uganda awaits you here: you will go gorilla trekking and set off early in the morning to search for gorilla tracks on the slopes of the national park's volcanoes.

Meeting the mountain gorillas and experiencing them up close is one of those moments you will remember for the rest of your life: watch the gorillas eat, play with each other, and spend time with their young. Follow the gorilla family for a while and discover their unique behaviors.

You will fly back to Entebbe on a short domestic flight and then travel along Lake Victoria to the private island of Kalagala Island, near the source of the Nile. The Lemala Wildwaters Lodge was built directly on the Nile and offers detached cottages with spacious terraces and freestanding bathtubs. Go on boat trips, white water rafting, or bungee jumping. Or watch crocodiles and hippos right on the riverbank.
