Experience a magical dream vacation in the elegant surroundings of the Ceylon Tea Trail in Bogawantalawa Valley on the lakeshore in the Hill Country. Five restored bungalows entice guests with lovingly decorated rooms and suites and delight with elegant wooden ceilings, paneled libraries, claw-foot bathtubs, and romantic bay windows. Feast on tea-inspired cuisine while enjoying the rustic views before exploring the surrounding tea plantations, gorges, and waterfalls. Visits to a tea factory, picnics, mountain hikes, and a round of tennis on the on-site tennis court are also possible.

Looking to relax? You can enjoy treatments in the privacy of your own room. Pampering aromatherapy baths are a must: try green tea to combat jet lag or cinnamon to boost your immune system. The walks between the five bungalows are an absolute highlight. They offer breathtaking views of lakes, mountains, and tea-covered slopes. The roads through the tea plantations are also perfect for cycling. Particularly active guests will also enjoy guided hikes and climbs up Adam's Peak, day trips, tennis, croquet, a tour of a tea factory, kayaking, or swimming.

Living
Living

Ceylon Tea Trails consists of five colonial-era tea planter bungalows scattered around Castlereagh Lake. Each of these historic-style bungalows features elegant master suites with separate living rooms, garden suites with verandas, and elegant luxury rooms, and is looked after by its own manager, chef, butler, and domestic staff. Choose one of the suites or rent an entire bungalow. Each room and suite is unique and decorated in a neo-colonial or classic English style, lovingly furnished with antiques and luxury furniture from the colonial era.

Each bungalow has a formal dining room, but you can also opt for one of the intimate tables on the outdoor terraces. The experienced chefs work so personally that you hardly need to glance at the menu—just let them advise you. Enjoy an English or Sri Lankan breakfast, a three-course lunch, a sumptuous afternoon tea, and a four-course dinner. Almost anything is possible – from roast chicken marinated in Yattawatta tea to an exquisite twelve-course curry banquet. An exquisite selection of wines, beers, champagne, and Scotch is available to accompany your meal.

Details of the Ceylon Tea Trail

Ceylon tea is still considered synonymous with tea enjoyment at the highest level. The roots of this reputation were laid during the English colonial era, when tea exports from what is now Sri Lanka were boosted worldwide. Those days are long gone, but a certain flair of the past still surrounds the sophisticated Ceylon Tea Trails. The five exclusive bungalows are connected by a tea trail, each of which has been furnished according to a specific theme – whether classic country house style, typical colonial style or 1950s flair. Each bungalow also has its own pool. But the luxury doesn't end there: one of the bungalows at Ceylon Tea Trails even has its own tennis court.
