Upstream from Victoria Falls, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, lies a natural paradise: the magnificent Royal Chundu, with its two splendid lodges right on the riverbank, is the perfect place to enjoy peace and quiet in an untamed corner of the world. Choose to stay in a thatched suite or a spacious villa on a private island and let your gaze wander over the idyllic water and lush river vegetation from your private veranda. Discover the diverse natural world on hikes, river cruises, and canoe trips, listen to the thunder of spectacular waterfalls, and indulge in exquisite Zambian cuisine and African spa treatments.

The wide range of activities and experiences, from spectacular to idyllic, will provide you with unforgettable memories. Enjoy a massage on the riverbank, paddle a canoe down the Zambezi while looking out for crocodiles and hippos, or visit a nearby village where you can get to know and support the local communities. A tour to the impressive Victoria Falls is a must—optionally from a bird's eye view in a helicopter. Other highlights include bird safaris, fishing trips, and nature walks with picnics in the wilderness.

There are two magnificent lodges to choose from for your comfortable overnight stay. The luxurious River Lodge comprises ten spacious and elegant suites for two guests, perched on stilts on the riverbank. From your private wooden veranda, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the fascinating Zambezi River, the seemingly endless expanses, and the Zimbabwean savannah. The intimate Island Lodge, located on the private island of Katombora, offers four luxurious villas for four to six people right on the water. The interior design captivates with a charming blend of colonial elegance and African charm.

Start your day on your private terrace overlooking the river with fresh coffee, discreetly placed in your suite's serving hatch at your desired time. All meals are served mainly outdoors and, where possible, feature exclusively organic ingredients sourced from the immediate vicinity. Opt for the Zambian tasting menu to be guided through each course in detail and get to know the local flavors better. Top off your evening with a cocktail by the river, where you may even spot elephants grazing or bathing on the opposite bank.

Details of Royal Chundu Lodge

With the exquisite Royal Chundu, you are choosing an exquisite retreat on a private stretch of the Zambezi River, just a short drive upstream from the thundering Victoria Falls. The family-owned lodge is the only Relais & Châteaux accommodation in Zambia and offers an unforgettable dream vacation full of tranquility, apart from the occasional cry of a native fish eagle or the foaming bubbling of the nearby rapids. Reside in one of two luxurious lodges: choose from ten stilted suites overlooking the Zambezi River in the River Lodge or four spacious villas in the Island Lodge on a small private island adorned with lush baobab trees and 2,000-year-old jackalberry trees. Large windows and private wooden verandas offer a fantastic view of the flowing water and the diverse wildlife.
