RwandaOf chimpanzees, gorillas, and green forests

Nyungwe Forest is Africa's largest mountain rainforest and was only declared a national park in 2004. On the way, you will stop at the museum in Butare and learn about Rwandan culture. In the reserve, you will go on a trekking tour to see wild chimpanzees. Two large groups of these fascinating animals live in Nyungwe: seize the opportunity to get up close to the chimpanzees! Although the animals are wild, they are accustomed to human observers. With a well-trained guide at your side, you will learn everything you need to know about these lively apes and also enjoy the wonderfully exotic nature around you.

We also invite you to take a canopy walk, a walk 60 meters above the forest floor. To do this, you use suspension bridges suspended between treetops and towers. The canopy walkway is unique in East Africa and offers spectacular views of the rainforest and its rich wildlife.

In the morning, you will continue towards Gisenyi and enjoy the day at your accommodation, reflecting on the impressions of the last few days, reading a good book, or simply relaxing. Lake Kivu is right on your doorstep. It is part of the Great African Rift Valley and surrounded by beautiful mountains. The water of Rwanda's largest lake shimmers in a magnificent emerald green. Just the right view for extensive relaxation! The lake also invites you to take a romantic boat trip to visit the small water sources.

The famous Volcano National Park with its wild gorillas is located on the rainforest-covered slopes of the Virunga Mountains. During a trekking tour, you will set out in search of these giants – your ranger knows where the animals were the day before and will follow their fresh feeding tracks. Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding five volcanoes and the crater lake on Mount Bisoke. You are also welcome to visit the grave of gorilla conservationist Diane Fossey. Buffalo and elephants may cross your path.

You can also visit the villages of Kinigi and Musanze to experience the colorful street culture. Don't miss out on the golden monkey trekking: these curious and playful little creatures frolic in the high-altitude forests of the national park. They love to romp around and jump from branch to branch.
