Shipwreck Lodge

Skeleton Coast
from $2,359

As the only hotel in this wonderfully remote location on Namibia's dramatic Skeleton Coast, Shipwreck Lodge offers an unforgettable experience. Nestled between towering dunes, howling winds, and the roaring South Atlantic, you will stay in one of ten wooden cabins modeled after real shipwrecks. The inimitable feeling of seclusion is justified; the pure, isolated beauty of the barely developed expanses invites you to embark on adventurous exploration tours. On game drives through the national park, you will experience the fascinating desert flora and fauna up close before warming yourself by the crackling wood-burning fireplace in the evening.

Daily life at the lodge revolves around the simple pleasures of life and enjoying this unique experience: join a game drive and observe the fascinating desert dwellers, picnic on the dunes as the sun sinks below the horizon, and explore the centuries-old shipwrecks on the beach. Whale bones and debris are always to be found on the rugged coastline, and there is something wonderfully pure about diving into the wild Atlantic on a warm day.

All ten wooden cabins are modeled after the real shipwrecks that line the beach and blend organically into the sandy landscape of the Skeleton Coast. The interior also follows the maritime theme and exudes an authentic ship atmosphere with ropes, wood, and porthole windows. Each cabin has a charming wooden fireplace to keep you warm on cool evenings or during sandstorms. Two of the accommodations are family-friendly and can be equipped with extra beds; all have private bathrooms and are powered by solar energy.

Drinks and meals are served in the cozy main lodge, which invites guests to linger with its collection of eye-catching and ornate furniture. The menu changes daily and usually features game and fresh fish, prepared to an excellent standard. Snacks or a light lunch are offered on excursions; refreshing sundowners can be enjoyed on the terrace or on the beach with a view of the sea.

Details of Shipwreck Lodge

In Namibia's remote Skeleton Coast National Park, the angular wooden huts of Shipwreck Lodge seem to appear out of nowhere. Lined up along a sand dune overlooking the rough Atlantic Ocean, they look as if they have literally been shipwrecked. A unique project centered around the mystical shipwrecks that line Namibia's Skeleton Coast, this fascinating lodge is unlike any other hotel. A visit to this rugged, rugged piece of African wilderness, full of towering dunes and windswept plains, will remain in your memory for a lifetime. Ten wooden cabins and a main lodge in maritime style offer sensational views of the waves of the South Atlantic washing over the sandy shore.
