After a short flight, your journey continues to Port Douglas. This small coastal town offers beautiful beaches and is the starting point for excursions to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree National Park. Visit the national park, where a member of the Kuku Yalanji tribe will be happy to teach you about the various fishing techniques. Take a course in traditional Aboriginal art at the art school or hike through the national park with your guide to learn more about the area. The impressive rainforest is home to many different species of animals and plants.

Hop aboard a sailing ship and head out to the Great Barrier Reef. Discover white sandy beaches and green palm trees surrounded by colorful coral gardens. Of course, you can jump into the turquoise water and snorkel to see the corals up close.

Continue your journey to beautiful neighboring New Zealand! In Auckland, drive your rental car to your accommodation. Explore this exciting city. Enjoy the view from the Sky Tower over the harbor with its numerous superyachts and discover numerous restaurants and cafés. Stroll through the Auckland Domain, a park on extinct volcanic terrain. At Mission Bay Beach, you can walk along the beach promenade or sunbathe on the beach.

Today's route takes you out of Auckland, over the Bombay Hills and into the Waikato lowlands. The lowlands themselves are dominated by the Waikato River, which meanders through the middle of the landscape. As New Zealand's longest river, it is an important waterway and is used to irrigate the surrounding fields. Your destination, Huka Lodge, is located near Taupo, just a few minutes from Lake Taupo.

Discover the waterfalls of the Waikato River, the Huka Falls. Lake Taupo is the largest lake in the country. Take a helicopter tour over the impressive landscape and Mount Tarawera with views of Lake Tarawera and the geothermal areas of Rotorua.

Then continue south to Hawke's Bay. As an area blessed with sunshine, it not only offers numerous resorts, but is also known for its wine and orchards. Cape Kidnappers is located at the easternmost part of the bay, and your unique lodge is located at its tip. It is one of the best lodges in the country, offering wonderful cuisine and incomparable views. Take a trip to the most famous vineyards in the area: Elephant Hill, Church Road, or Mission Estate, to name but a few.

Then you continue on to New Zealand's South Island: Once you arrive in Nelson, you pick up your rental car again and drive west. Fertile fields and vineyards stretch out before you. Motueka and Kaiteriteri are the gateway to Abel Tasman National Park, named after the Dutch explorer who discovered New Zealand before Captain Cook. Hike along one of the many trails through the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park.

The national park is famous for its numerous small bays with sandy beaches and turquoise water, and its granite cliffs. At the same time, more than three quarters of the national park is forested. The wildlife is mainly characterized by a variety of seabirds. A water taxi will take you from nearby Kaiteriteri to one of the numerous bays, from where you can begin your return journey through the beautiful natural surroundings.

After a short drive back to Nelson, you will fly on to Queenstown. The town of Queenstown is located on the edge of the Southern Alps and lies on Lake Wakatipu. The relatively small town center is home to countless bars and cafés. Lake Wakatipu and its surroundings are popular with hikers, mountain bikers, and water sports enthusiasts. Queenstown is a center for adventure tourism. Skiing, jet boating, bungee jumping, mountain biking, and hiking are the main activities that can be enjoyed from the city. From Queenstown, the journey continues inland over Lindis Pass into the highlands. Here you will arrive in the beautiful Ahuriri Valley, which was formed by the once wild waters of the Ahuriri River. Whether it's excursions by bike, horse, or buggy, in the mountains or by the lake, there is something for everyone here. You are approaching the end of your journey and the largest city on the South Island – Christchurch. Known as the Garden City due to its numerous gardens, the city offers a unique culture as well as many cafés and restaurants. You will be staying just outside the city in the beautiful Otahuna Lodge. From there, you can take trips to the Waipara wine region, where you will find excellent boutique wineries. The region is known for its excellent Pinot Noirs, but also for its Rieslings.

One of the world's most beautiful train journeys is not far away. The TranzAlpin runs past the Waimakariri River to Arthur's Pass National Park and back through beautiful countryside after a hike. On the way back, stop at the monolithic limestone cliffs of Castle Hill, one of the main filming locations for "The Chronicles of Narnia."
