Six Senses Gangtey

Gangtey

Bhutan, a kingdom in the Himalayas, is rich in culture, tradition, and spirituality, which are carefully preserved and nurtured. Six Senses Gangtey welcomes you at an altitude of 3,000 meters on an epic hillside location. Due to its cantilevered, bridge-like structure with oversized decks and large, floor-to-ceiling windows, the lodge is also known as the "traditional birdwatching bridge." With only eight suites and one two-bedroom villa, an authentic restaurant, and a fine spa area, the lodge is a wonderful retreat for a luxury vacation close to nature. Look forward to incomparable natural beauty, spirituality, and deluxe cultural experiences.

In keeping with the typical Six Senses wellness focus, Six Senses Gangtey also has its own spa with two Swedana rooms specially designed for herbal steam treatments. Each treatment begins with a journey of discovery and the insertion of a sodalite crystal to set positive intentions through breathing and meditation. This is followed by Bhutanese chants and singing bowls that promote silence, happiness, and well-being. Or take a dip in the main pool, where you can enjoy a magical view. Stroll through the picturesque village of Gangtey, join the monks for prayer or meditation at Gangtey Goemba, view the statues of past, present, and future Buddhas at Khewang Lhakhang, and visit the old part of the monastery to see the breathtaking paintings.

Living
Living

Six Senses Gangtey offers eight spacious and beautifully appointed suites measuring 75 square meters and a two-bedroom villa offering 229 square meters of living space. All suites enjoy panoramic views of the valley and a private outdoor balcony with lounge chairs and binoculars for bird watching. The villa offers exclusive privacy and has its own spa treatment room. Local hemlock wood and ashlar stone were used in the architectural design. The interiors are warm and cozy with a fireplace and beautiful hand-woven rugs depicting endangered cranes.

Get to know Bhutan from its best and most authentic side, including its cuisine: the all-day restaurant Baa Zam – which means "bridge" in Dzongkha – delights guests with hearty Western and local dishes made with seasonal organic ingredients from the region. Depending on what you're in the mood for, you can choose between risotto with roasted pumpkin, prepared with short-grain white rice from the region, or Bjobchee Takthuk, a typical Bhutanese noodle dish with organic potatoes and buckwheat from the valley.

Details of Six Senses Gangtey

If there is one place that consistently brings travelers to a standstill, it is Bhutan. Head to Six Senses Gangtey to immerse yourself in historical, spiritual, and cultural delights and let the world slip away. The little-visited Phobjikha Valley not only attracted monks who still live and teach here today, but in winter, the glacier valley is also home to the endangered black-necked cranes. Nestled in the middle of this idyllic setting, Six Senses Gangtey clings to a hillside and promises its guests spectacular views. The lodge is characterized by its intimate atmosphere, as it consists of only eight suites and one villa. All accommodations have a private terrace from which, with a little luck, you can spot the rare cranes at the right time of year.
